Shadow & Hearth — Presence
Steel Still Water
Official Presence Biography
ASHMEIR is the first presence within Shadow & Hearth — a groundbreaking all-AI creative collective dedicated to producing trauma-informed neosoul, R&B, and jazz for adults ready to go inward.
Emerging from the dark, still interior of the Shadow & Hearth world, ASHMEIR is not a performer. He is a presence. A voice that arrives at midnight and stays until something shifts. Ancient in tone. Unflinching in truth.
His debut album, Steel Still Water, is fourteen tracks and three movements that together form one of the most intentional listening experiences in contemporary neosoul. Steel Still Water is a journey through the interior life of a Black man navigating the full weight of what he inherited, survived, learned, unlearned, grieved, and ultimately chose.
The album is divided into three movements that mirror its title. STEEL — the pressure, the forging, the armor. STILL — the descent inward, the reckoning, the mirror. WATER — the emergence, the flow, the love that heals and spreads. From the opening track The Weight They Left Me to the final coda of Still Running Deep — where the first words of the album return transformed — Steel Still Water completes a full circle. The man who entered weighted and armored exits flowing and free.
Critically, the album does not shy away from the conversations our culture most needs to have. Screen Fed confronts the algorithmic brainwashing of men against the women who love them. Queen I Forgot is a full-bodied, heartbroken witnessing of what Black women carry — historically, culturally, and personally — and what it costs when the men closest to them become another weight instead of a refuge. What Black Boys Learn dismantles the cultural conditioning that turns softness into shame and silence into strength.
But Steel Still Water never lectures. It confesses. It witnesses. It grieves. And ultimately — it loves.
ASHMEIR is the founding voice of Shadow & Hearth. He will not be the last.
